Alba- A Physical Approach to Emotion in Performance
with Master Teacher Laura Bond
May 11 – 15, 2018, Toronto (5 days - 8 hours per day)
As a purely physical approach to emotion stimulation and regulation Alba offers performers an efficient and effective method to access emotions in the embodiment of a theatrical moment without the use of memory or image. It can also offer the performer a potent source for pure movement. Alba utilizes Emotion Effector Patterns, which are precise breathing and muscle manipulation patterns learned in gradual developmental exercises that help a person control and regulate emotions. Each effector pattern has three parts: (1) a breathing pattern, (2) facial expression, and (3) postural attitude, that work together to create a physical code that opens the doors to allow emotions to express throughout the entire body. The performer will learn how to fully enter and clear emotional states and move from one emotion to another with conscious control using an approach that is not tied to a specific discipline or aesthetic but one that can complement and enhance other existing techniques.
Laura Bond is a Full Professor at UNC-Asheville, and the Director of the Arts and Ideas Program, a professional Equity actress, director, singer, and voice-over artist. She is internationally recognized as a master Alba teacher and a certified master teacher of the Estill Voice Technique.
